What Is Gastric Revisional Surgery?

After bariatric surgery, there can be cases of weight regain or insufficient weight loss. Gastric revisional surgery can correct prior weight loss surgery and help you achieve weight loss targets by adding more restriction or malabsorption. There are two potential procedures to consider.

Conversion of the laparoscopic band to either:

1) a gastric bypass
2) a gastric sleeve.

A conversion of an adjustable gastric band to a gastric bypass can take place in one procedure. In some circumstances, two interventions are necessary. This is when the gastric wall of your stomach, where the band has been placed, is too fragile to form a new connection between your small bowel and the part of your upper stomach where the band was placed.

It is critical that revisional surgery is carried out within highly experienced centres, such as Tonic Weight Loss Surgery, as there is almost double the risk of major complications than with first-time bariatric surgery.
