Allurion Pill Balloon Treatment
What Is The Allurion Pill Balloon?
The Allurion Balloon is a pill balloon capsule, which is swallowed under the guidance of our Healthcare Professionals. It is the first gastric balloon that requires no surgery, endoscopy, or anaesthesia for placement or removal. The balloon is placed during a brief 15-minute outpatient visit. Nearly 100% of people succeed in swallowing the Allurion Balloon. If you have trouble swallowing the capsule on your own, your doctor can assist you.
After approximately 16 weeks, it empties and passes naturally. On average patients lose between 10-15% of their total body weight.
How Does The Allurion Pill Balloon Treatment Work?
The balloon takes up space in your stomach and induces weight loss by increasing fullness, delaying gastric emptying, and reducing the amount of food eaten at each meal.
The Allurion Programme is all encompassing and goes well beyond the 16-week gastric balloon used to kickstart your weight loss. The 6-month scientifically backed Programme helps you readjust your mindset towards food to sustain your weight loss, for your long-term health. The results can last a lifetime. By the time the balloon passes, you’ve developed new food preferences, adjusted to smaller portion sizes, and developed a new understanding of your body which leads to real results, not endless yo-yo-ing. The Allurion Balloon is a safe, non-permanent solution and can help you to kickstart your weight-loss journey.

These are uncommon and we will do everything possible to prevent them from happening. In rare cases, the Allurion Balloon may require endoscopic or surgical intervention for removal. Weight Loss Results
Allurion balloon patients typically lose between 10-15% of their total body weight and are back to work after two days. Most of the weight loss with the balloon happens within the first three months. After this period, the weight loss usually stabilises and we ask patients to boost their exercise.
Patients will find that eating smaller portions of food will keep them feeling fuller for longer. As a result, they can reduce their meal sizes and achieve the weight loss they are looking for. One clinical study showed that 95% of the average weight loss with the Allurion Balloon was sustained at 1-year follow-up.
Recovery Time and Aftercare
Allurion balloon procedures take about 15 minutes.
For the first couple of days after surgery, patients are likely to feel nauseous. By day three, most of these symptoms have usually subsided.
There are some specific dietary recommendations before placement and during the first week after placement as you adapt to the balloon. The weeks that follow the placement are a great time to start making changes to the way you eat. You do not need to make huge changes to eat more healthily all at once, it’s best to set small goals and change your habits a little bit at a time

Removing your Balloon
After approximately 16 weeks inside your stomach, a time activated release valve will open, allowing the balloon to empty and pass naturally through the gastrointestinal tract without the need for a removal procedure.
After the Allurion Balloon passes, the Tonic support team, including our specialist dietitian, psychotherapist, personal trainer and life coach, will be on hand to offer regular advice and help you maintain dietary and lifestyle changes.
