Tonic Surgery’s #GivingBackLives Awards: Celebrating Ally’s Remarkable Transformation

At Tonic Weight Loss, we perform hundreds of procedures every year and are committed to working with every single one of our patients to help them achieve their weight loss goals so they can live their lives to the fullest.

Our Giving Back Lives Awards initiative is there to help patients do just that!

So every single year, we have pledged to offer life-changing surgery to 1 person in the UK (a fully private procedure paid for by ourselves at Tonic). And that’s not all…3 lucky runners-up will qualify for a special 15% discount on any of our procedures. The winners will also receive our premium 5 star aftercare to ensure they get the right support post-surgery.

Ally won the #givingbacklives awards in 2022, where she received Private Weight Loss Surgery (worth over £10,000!) fully funded and provided by Tonic Surgery. She would love to share her story and also encourage others to get involved with this year’s awards which launched on the 1st of September 2023 for their chance to receive this same great opportunity. Quotes from Ally below;

Life before surgery –
“I have struggled with my weight all of my adult life, I have PCOS and every diet I have tried just wasn’t successful. I have tried the Cambridge 121 diet, Weight Watchers, Slimming World and life was so different. I was always on the sidelines just looking in, I never felt like I reached my full potential. I was approaching 40 and feeling stagnant and stuck in the life that I was living.
Life after surgery –
“I have lost over 10 stone and I feel absolutely incredible. I would never have dreamt to have the life that I currently have now. I go out more,  I spend a lot more time outdoors with my daughter, I go to the gym, I never turn down an invitation to go out. I spend far too much money on clothes but it’s a small price to pay for what I have got for the rest of my life. I can’t say any more times how much this has changed my life.  I am not the person I used to be 9 months ago. I just want to say thank you to Tonic because you have given me back my life.”

All their surgeons are NHS Consultant Specialist Bariatric Surgeons with a plethora of experience and knowledge in the field of Bariatric Surgery. WHAT IS WEIGHT LOSS (BARIATRIC) SURGERY?

Bariatric surgical procedures cause weight loss by restricting the amount of food the stomach can hold, causing malabsorption of nutrients, or by a combination of both gastric restriction and malabsorption. Bariatric procedures also often cause hormonal changes. Most weight loss surgeries today are performed using minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopic surgery). The most common bariatric surgery procedures are gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, adjustable gastric band, and biliopancreatic diversion with duodenal switch.

HOW EFFECTIVE IS WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY AS A TREATMENT FOR OBESITY AND TYPE 2 DIABETES?

Evidence shows that surgery is a very effective treatment option for some people with Type 2 diabetes and can be cost-effective for the NHS. Diabetes UK believes that you should have access to all proven effective treatments Simon O’Neill, Director of Health Intelligence and Professional Liaison at Diabetes UK said: “We strongly support the call for obesity surgery to be fully recognised as an active treatment for Type 2 diabetes alongside established forms of treatment such as following a healthy lifestyle and medications to lower blood glucose levels.” (Source – https://www.diabetes.org.uk/ guide-to-diabetes/managing-your-diabetes/treating- your-diabetes/weight-loss- surgery)
