Tips For Beating That Bloated Feeling

Feeling bloated is very common – Leaving you feeling uncomfortable and your abdomen stretched and puffed out. Follow our tips to avoid that bloated feeling…

1. Cut down – Reduce your intake of foods such as beans, onions, broccoli, cabbage, sprouts and cauliflower which are known to cause wind and bloating.

2. Walk it off – A twenty minute walk can improve your bowel function which will alleviate constipation one of the causes of feeling bloated.

3. Keep a food diary – Monitor what you eat, drink and when you feel bloated. Then you might be able to figure out if food groups like wheat, gluten and dairy are causing it. Eat more fibre – Fibre rich diets are associated with a lower risk of heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and bowel cancer. Foods like wholegrain cereals, wholemeal breads, wholewheat pasta, pulses, fruit and nuts are all great sources of fibre which helps improve your bowel function and constipation – one of the causes of feeling bloated.

4. Don’t swallow too much air – Avoid eating and talking at the same time, sit down to eat, avoid fizzy drinks and don’t chew chewing gum with your mouth open. Swallowing air can bloat your belly.

(*Please speak to your GP for advice before you stop eating certain food groups and if your bloating symptoms persist.)
